Telomeres
The ends of linear chromosomes have attracted serious scientific study. Called telomeres, these ends serve to protect the coding DNA of the genome. When a cell’s telomeres shorten to critical lengths, the cell senesces (grows old/stops dividing). Read the full article here: Telomeres in Disease.
Project: Designed article layout; sourced a stock chromosome image for the opener illustration and manipulated it using photoshop to better fit the article (changed the original single chromatids into sister chromatids); worked with the editor to prepare content for the telomere primer infographic; created a detailed sketch for the infographic layout and content before commissioning to medical illustrator Scott Leighton.
